These are made from average units (Mechanically they function well). With the eyepieces replaced. Normally binocular eyepieces are 3-4 element with marginal correction for color and edge sharpness. But the correction on Siebert 6 element eyepieces are exceptional. The eyepieces used for refit are shown in the picture below when compared to a Japanese made Meade 26mm Super plossl. The eyepieces used do not add to the color correction problem (but in fact minimizing it.) False color is almost completely absent under most viewing conditions. 

A little doubt is understandable.

 Many people think that the Objectives and prisms have more to do with the quality of view then the eyepieces. Is this true? NO!, not at these magnifications. A quality 50mm objective could be pushed to 100 times without a failure. Most binoculars objectives can easily be pushed to half of that. These binoculars do not have to go nearly that high but as you see in the pictures at the bottom of the page they could go to 40x. In this case prisms are not the bottleneck. It is the failure of the eyepieces that brings down most binoculars which in this case is easy to fix.

 I have never felt comfortable with a pair of binoculars under $400. But after refitting one of my own I could immediately see a big difference in terms of comfort, sharpness and eyerelief which is 22mm in this case. The stars never looked like pin points in the field and the images in both eyepieces never seemed to blend well at night. Their was always a spike of flair I could not get rid of. The stars always looked a little different for each eyepieces which was unacceptable. The replacement eyepieces are not wide field at 50deg but are razor sharp to the edge of the field and have be given a lot of attention as to collimation so the stars blend into one without problems.

So you have 60 days to determine if the views these provide are good enough to justify the cost. They also have separate adjustable eye focus and a user collimation adjustment. The units shown have their rubber eyecups removed so you can see the optics better. Every unit is tested under the stars before they can be shipped so there might be some shipping delays. This is important so as to assure a perfect star test.

 The criteria I use for determining which units I use to convert is they must mechanically function well. I have to be familiar with the quality of the objective lenses and prisms that are being used. These may not be for everybody, but if interested feel free to contact me.
